Welcome to Phnom Phen!

After a very long day of traveling - we left LAX at 1:30 in the morning on Friday and got in at 11:30 am Saturday Cambodia time - we are finally here! I am so excited to be in this city... It feels like a mix between Cairo, Egypt and Nassau, Bahamas, with so many crazy drivers/bikers/scooter riders and no real lanes of traffic to speak of all surrounded by balmy, humid air, palm trees, and coconut vendors. I will have to figure out how to upload my video of the drive from the airport... It won't be the status of my brother's films, but maybe using his camera will give me at least a little of his mad skill. :)
Brian and my dad dropped me off at the airport at 11pm thursday night, and it was really hard not to get sad because I had to say good bye to my brother... As of June 1, the United States
Marine Corps owns his life. First it is boot camp, and then for the next seven
months he will be going from one training to the next with tiny breaks in between... I am such a selfish sister. I am so used to it being me that goes away for long periods of time; whether to summer activities, travel, or college, but I am not used to being home when Brian is not there. It is going to be strange. Pray for him!
Our first flight was from LAX to Taiwan, and because we got there at about 5:30 in the morning Taiwan time, we saw the sun rise as we flew in... talk about beautiful! It made me think of the Starfield song that says, "The whole Earth is filled with your glory, LORD" Gosh, it is so true. :) Our gate in Taiwan was HelloKitty themed... I am not kidding. It was very... pink. ha.
The best part about the four hour lay over was a sweet prayer session that I got to have with one of may classmates, Jessica. She is a senior from Texas, she goes to Francis Chan's church in SoCal, and she likes Korean Style prayer, if that tells you anything... basically, the girl loves Jesus a ton and has a huge heart for the lost... Thank you, God! She is already such a blessing to me. :) We almost made our class late to board, we were having such a good time praying. Haha, gotta love it.
I am rooming with a very funny and sweet sophomore from Texas (three of the ten of us are Texan... that's USC for you) named Lauren. Pictures to come, and stories, I am sure, but for now I would just ask for prayer... I am praying that we get to be very good friends over the next two weeks, and the she really experiences the love of Christ through our interaction. She loves Jesus, but I think that there is some hurt in her heart that He would really like to heal.
Tonight we are going out to to dinner to celebrate our arrival and one of the girls birthdays, and we are meeting the director of Documentation Center - Cambodia, the organization that we are going to be working with while we are here.
In my next post I will explain in more detail why we are here and what we will be doing, and also share my heart on it... It will be an intense few weeks, but I am happy to be here and have already experienced God's divine direction in the orchestration of this trip... Spiritual conversations, the beginnings of real relationships, kingdom connections... it will be good. Thank you for all your love and support, and I will write again soon!
